If there is too much loosening and there are excess folds of skin or if the muscle is separated, which happens during pregnancy often, liposuction is really not completely effective, and in these people, we might suggest combinations of liposuction and tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. There are so called mini tummy tucks that we can do in conjunction with liposuction and there are larger procedures we can do as well. I prefer a modified abdominoplasty procedure, which, in using the tumescent solution for injection that we use with liposuction and then performing liposuction, removes fat in a greater area of the upper and lower abdomen as well as the sides and the advantage of this modified procedure whereby we inject the tumescent solution and perform liposuction at the same time is that as opposed to the more traditional abdominoplasty procedure, this is much safer with much less risk of injury to blood vessels and nerves and much less risk of skin loss in the center of the incision area.
