Smart liposuction removes fat and tightens the skin.

SmartLipo is the trade name for Cynosure’s new laser, which is used for liposculpture as well as for tightening skin in conjunction with liposuction. I have been using it now in conjunction with liposuction and alone for small areas where there is not a lot of excess fat such as in the neck. This is a technique whereby we still put numbing medicine in the area, patients can be awake with light sedation, and the laser fibers then used under the skin to deliver a certain amount of energy to each area. It helps break up some fat and some fibrous attachments that may exist and also acts to tighten the skin from the undersurface and give a more complete result, I think, in larger liposuction cases and allows us to do things of the neck that we were not able to do before with just liposuction.
