Some patients are candidate for a limited neck lift procedures. The ageing changes of the neck occur because the platysma muscle, which is long sheath like muscle or a wide muscle that covers the entire neck and divides in the middle, gets loose and so the front edges of the muscle tend to droop a little bit forming what are called bands or platysmal bands or cording or so called turkey neck and the turkey neck is a combination of lot of things; loose skin, some fat in the neck in some cases, and laxity of the muscle as well. So in doing a limited neck lift procedure, we can make a small incision in the natural crease under the chin, expose the whole area of the neck and then trim and tighten the muscles in the neck, trim the fat or just scope the fat of the neck, you do not want to remove all the fat in the neck because it can give so called cobra-neck deformity or unnatural appearance. But in doing those two things and then achieving the tightening from the sides behind the ears, we can do an isolated neck lift in those cases where it is indicated. In some cases, mostly in young patients, there is often some fullness in the neck that is caused just by fat excess and if everything else is okay, we can go into the neck and just do a local liposuction procedure reducing the fullness of the neck. I have also suctioned both superficial and deep to the platysma muscle, which is the big muscle in the neck, and in doing this, we get some additional tightening of the muscle itself.
