Functionally, rhinoplasty can be performed to correct nasal obstruction caused by a deviated septum (the divider inside the nose) and/or by enlarged turbinates (structures inside the nose that warm and humidify air). Correction of these breathing abnormalities with rhinoplasty is usually covered by insurance.
Rhinoplasty is the most difficult plastic surgery to perform consistently well, such that the patient has a natural, un-operated final appearance. Many people have very “done” noses, where it is obvious that cosmetic surgery has been performed. Dr. Schwartz takes great care to use conservative techniques that allow for reproducible results that look natural. His goal is to maintain a natural look while also achieving the desired goals of the patient.
To achieve these ends, Dr. Schwartz utilizes computer imaging, which is especially useful for profiles of the nose. Computer imaging allows Dr. Schwartz to show his rhinoplasty patients what is possible surgically and hear their feedback on whether or not each option achieves their goals. It is extremely useful for establishing communication and common goals prior to surgery, and it is also useful as an educational tool to show patients what is possible with rhinoplasty surgery.
Dr. Schwartz consults with rhinoplasty patients across Pasadena, Los Angeles, and Southern California. If you would like to learn more about rhinoplasty at our Pasadena, California practice, please contact the office of Dr. Michael Schwartz today.
