Abdominoplasty Procedure

A tummy tuck is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. The abdominoplasty surgery begins with an incision across the lower abdomen, generally from hip to hip, depending on how much skin there is to be removed. Excess skin and fat are then removed from the abdominal area and, occasionally, liposuction is used to contour the stomach and waist area. Dr. Schwartz may use SmartLipo™ laser liposuction during the procedure, which is a more advanced form of liposuction that can speed recovery after surgery. After the extra fat and skin are removed, the internal muscle structures of the abdomen are tightened, and sutures are used to close the incision.
